What is Gray Matters?

Freedom tower, NYCWhat is Gray Matters?
Gray Matters is a group of seasoned professionals in or near retirement who offer advisory services without charge to not-for-profit, community-based organizations (CBOs) in the New York metropolitan area. Members use their extensive experience and skills to assist CBOs in achieving their respective goals.

How We Work

Once you Contact Us a Gray Matters member will phone or email you within a few days to discuss your projects, your needs and your priorities. Then a Gray Matters member whose skills match your needs will be asked to contact you and begin the relationship. Requests are also presented at our monthly meeting for comment and collaboration among all members.

There is no set structure for our services. We work with organizations for as long as we mutually feel we can be of use and with as many Gray Matters members as are needed to address the organizations issues.

History

Gray Matters was founded in 2000 by the late Larry Levine and George Adams  who understood that not-for-profit organizations in the New York City metropolitan area could benefit from experienced advice. They also recognized a capacity and desire among colleagues and friends to devote more time to social and community activism. This led them to ask: How do you harness the talents of these professionals and match them with the needs of particular not-for-profit organizations? The answer was Gray Matters.
